MSHDA Accepting nominations until Feb 12, 2021 for the Duvernay Award: Excellence in Community Development/Affordable Housing

The Terrence R Duvernay Award is recognized as a pinnacle for any career in the affordable housing and community development industry.

This award commemorates the lifelong commitment of this past Executive Director of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). As the namesake of this annual leadership award, Duvernay has the distinction of creating some of the most successful and innovative housing finance programs in the United States. His contributions to the industry fostered significant growth in affordable housing and community development for the state of Michigan.

In obtaining this honor, the recipient receives a cash award that they direct to the housing nonprofit organization of their choice, as well as recognition for their hard work.

The Duvernay Award Committee is requesting you to distribute the form to your members and peers for consideration. The committee is also suggesting you think about nominating a person from your organization to be considered for the award. The form contains a description of the award and application time lines.

Michigan Community Action's Social and Racial Justice Team Series

The MCA Social and Racial Justice Team Series is a set of training and learning resources for community action agencies and anti-poverty activists. We are committed to fulfilling the promise of Community Action to serve all people by deepening our learning about antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion and taking action. Trainings are free for Michigan Community Action members; non-members are encouraged to attend for a suggested donation of $25 per training to the Michigan Community Action Greatest Needs Fund

As of 1/5/21 position still open: Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency is seeking a Controller

Bring your skills to this opportunity to provide financial leadership for a leading private non-profit social services agency in Northwest Michigan. As the Controller, you will be responsible for all financial operations of the Agency including accounting, compliance, tax filings, financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, audits, forecasting, internal controls, and treasury activities.

Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience that includes gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. A CPA and/or MBA is preferred.

Experience in a senior financial management role, partnering with leadership, resulting in the development and implementation of financial management strategies, is critical. Preferred candidates will have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources including government (federal and state) contracts. Qualified candidates must be mission-driven and effective in a team-oriented working environment.
