Community Action Agencies, in partnership with the state's utility companies, offers a series of energy efficiency programs to help residential, commercial and industrial customers reduce their natural gas and electric usage and save money on their utility bills.

Other initiatives include programs to assist low income households with energy efficiency measures, rebates to install Energy Star appliances, etc.  For more details please visit the Efficiency United website.

The Efficiency United call center accepts inquiry calls, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday's from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The toll free number is 1.877.367.3191.

Under Public Act 295 of 2008, utilities must finance energy efficiency programs to all customer classes.  Michigan Community Action was awarded a contract to serve as the state’s energy optimization plan administrator by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).

Participating utilities whose customers receive energy optimization services under the auspices of the plan administrator include the following:

Alpena Power Company, Baraga Electric Utility, Bayfield Electric Cooperative, City of Crystal Falls Electric Department, City of Gladstone Department of Power & Light, City of South Haven Public Works, Daggett Electric Department, Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities, Indiana Michigan Power Company, L’Anse Electric Company, Michigan Gas Utilities, City of Negaunee Electric Department, City of Norway Department of Power & Light, SEMCO Energy Gas Company, Upper Peninsula Power Company, WE Energy (Wisconsin Electric), Wisconsin Public Service Corporation and Xcel Energy.

Efficiency United provides utility programs for residential, commercial and industrial customers, and includes an income qualified component.
