Summer Conference 2019: Putting the Promise into Action

Michigan Community Action (MCA) and the Bureau of Community Action & Economic Opportunity (BCAEO) will hold our joint annual Summer Conference from July 23-25 (Tuesday-Thursday), 2019, at Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls, MI. Representatives from Michigan's Community Action Agencies, state and local government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations will meet to discuss and share solutions to the causes and conditions of poverty and how the Community Action Network is working to eliminate poverty in Michigan.

This year’s conference theme, Putting the Promise into Action, refers to the national Community Action Promise to promote economic opportunity for all through effective management of programs and resources, collaboration, and advocacy. Our conference speakers and topics will reflect how CAAs in Michigan are living and working to carry out the Promise to address and solve the problems of people living in poverty and their communities.

Agenda

The conference agenda is currently under development, but it will include a mixture of general and breakout sessions featuring speakers and topics that will resonate with CAA staff and board members who are interested in improving agency performance and their own personal effectiveness. In addition to the scheduled sessions and events that make up the conference, there are always ample opportunities for learning from peers and colleagues who share similar interests and responsibilities at their agencies.

Some of the speakers we’ve already confirmed include:

James X SullivanJames Sullivan
Dr. Gail ChristopherDr. Gail Christopher
Patrick HenryPatrick Henry

In addition, we will have a team of representatives from Wipfli, a leading national accounting and consulting firm, who will address topics of fiscal compliance, human resource management, and IT security as part of our breakout session schedule. As always we will also feature a number of “CAA Showcases” where member agencies will share programs and practices they’ve instituted at their agencies that might be of value to their peers. We will continue to announce speakers and trainers as they are confirmed.

Organizations and companies that would like to connect with the Community Action network in Michigan can also participate in the conference by becoming conference sponsors and exhibitors. More information on sponsorship can be found here and exhibit opportunities here.  Some of our 2019 sponsors are below:

Finally, Northern Michigan is a great place to visit in late July with numerous lakes, rivers, beaches, golf courses, hiking and biking trails and more right there at Boyne Mountain or just a few minutes away. There’s even Avalanche Bay Water Park attached to the hotel! So it’s a great destination for Community Action staff who want a professional development experience along side a wonderful family vacation!

Some items before registering:

  • The option for registering a guest is open, but please only use this button if you know the registrant does not have a MemberClicks account.
  • If the Key Contact from your agency registers multiple people they will be able to use the “Register Linked Profiles” button. This will also cut down on the data entry as it will prepopulate the registrant’s name and agency.

    • Please do not change your own information when registering someone else while logged into your account - this will change your information and you may no longer receive emails.  (use linked or guest buttons instead)
